Learn from the Experts
The best thing about life is that we can learn from the experiences of other people. The richness of their experiences leads us to the understanding that we are all journeying towards reaching our goals in life. Other people have their own experiences of failures and successes. It is up to us to learn from them. You do not need to experience the same failures, it is really best to avoid them. Indeed, experience is the best teacher but we, too, can learn from the experiences of other people.
The happiest people are people who are able to reach their goal because they have learned from the experts. Depending on the goal you want to achieve in life, you can always find several persons who are also trying to achieve those same goals.
Just to give you an example, many years ago at the age of 21, I decided to learn the piano. My colleagues discouraged me from learning how to play the piano and they told me I was too old to learn the instrument. Deep in my heart I really wanted to compose songs that will inspire a lot of people and I need the piano to compose those songs. I started to approach the experts. I consider a person an expert if that person already had more than 10,000 hours spent in a particular endeavor. I decided to approach certain persons like Fr. Philip Lazatin, SDB, Jim Lopez, Stanley Asignar, and Fr. Andy Mendoza, SDB. I also listened to the piano playing of Jim Brickman, Jim Chapell, Fr. Arnel Aquino, SJ and the songs of Fr. Manoling Francisco, SJ. I also decided to listen to the style of OPM Music especially for love songs and listened to the songs of Gary Granada, Ryan Cayabyab and Noel Cabangon. I was able to compose my own songs and shared them with a lot of people.
Learning a trade, achieving a goal requires learning from those who already went ahead of us.
