Dealing with Negative Emotions
As human beings, we are bombarded by many different situations in the course of our lifetime. On a daily basis, we have to deal with a number of people, unexpected scenarios, and the daily challenges of dealing with work. Such a situation could touch on a particular issue in your life and this triggers negative emotions that you also have to deal with. We should always be reminded that as human beings, we have the capacity to make our own choices. This brings us closer to the reality that we can honestly deal with negative emotions.
1. Understanding the source of negative emotions. What caused or triggered your negative emotion? Do you have personal issues that you need to accept and resolve? It is really important that you understand where the source is because identifying negative emotions bring you closer to understanding the underlying problem.
2. Learning how to accept the truth. The most difficult thing when dealing with negative emotions is to learn how to accept the truth. Most of the time, we don't want to see or hear the truth about ourselves and this produces more negative emotions. Acceptance of the situation or acceptance of the self brings you closer to ending negative emotions.
3. Replacing negative emotions with positive emotions. Positive emotions are not designed to sugarcoat negative emotions. Positive emotions bring you to understand that there are other options not just giving in to negative emotions.
